A Bite of the Big Apple: Experiencing Three of Five Burroughs

Updated: Feb 15, 2023

Being born and raised in the "2nd City" develops a small big city chip on your shoulder. A feeling as if though the 1st metropolis can't teach this midwesterner anything. Boy was I wrong, from the moment you land at JFK the hustle and bustle begins. Taking the AirTrain to the J Train was an experience all in itself trekking to the hostel in Bushwick.

My film camera was my main source of inspiration as I walked the city streets. I'm thankful I had a dear friend show me the ropes of NYC's MTA (Metro Transit Authority) if not for this crash course on how to ride NYC's complex network of elevated and subterranean lines I would have been a lost soul. (S/O to Joseph Johnson)

So these group of photos are from my day navigating the city solo dolo. From Brooklyn to Manhattan to Harlem. When I took these photos it had been 8 years since I took a photo with a film camera and it showed the first few rolls. I truly thought I was back in my element, but I was sadly mistaken. I destroyed several rolls of film before I got to completing a full roll of film. Initially I was devastated but I pushed through and luckily I did save one roll of film.

NYC showed me a different side that you can only experience by stepping foot there. The texture of the city the people of the city (Who are great by the way) all the hype is real.

NYC will be showing this Chicago man a good time again but until then I’ll bask in the beauty of these photos from the trip.

P.S.

And the demeanor of NYC folks is totally blown out of proportion in media. All I met were nice people in the city.
